In
view of all these inconveniences, the idea of reconstituting the House of Africa
at another site, which would be more appropriate to its nature and exceptional
character, made its way.
|
In order to cut the cost of the project, without jeopardizing
the presentation of the residence, it was decided to reconstitute only the main
parts thereof i.e. the noble section minus service rooms, which are simply suggested,
and the private quarters deprived of some ancillaries. | |
| | All
parts adorned with mosaics are maintained in the reconstitution; the visitor will
therefore have the opportunity, for the first time, to wander inside a sumptuous
residence of the Roman epoch, while having a true perception of spaces, elevations
and of the precise ornamentation of the floors, with mosaic reset in a context
which is very similar to their original context; wheres in the past, on the country,
this type of architecture was not perceived but through ruins which are not very
eloquent or meaningful; as walls are very low, indeed inexistent, and the visitor
would not see but scattered fragments of capitals and columns and few non representative
mosaics, since the most relevant ones are usually exhibited in museums. |
